TV Antennas, Aerials & Reception

The Coffs Coast is covered by five transmitters, and they do not all suit the same antenna. We meter the signal at your place, aim at the right tower and fix the real cause of the dropout.

Antenna and reception, done properly

Five transmitters serve this coast, not one. Mount Moombil, a 1,031 m mountain about 26 km west-south-west of Coffs Harbour, carries most towns at up to 210 kW, and four small local sites at Korora, Emerald Heights, Toormina and Woolgoolga fill the gaps the terrain punches in that signal. Korora shows how much the ground matters: the mountain signal arrives there unusable, shadowed by a 313 m ridge just outside town, while the 150 W monopole on Sealy Lookout, 1.5 km up the hill, does the whole job. Antennas there point up at the hill above town instead of out west at the mountain.

That is why every job starts with the signal meter. It settles which tower your antenna should be on, which channels it has to pull in and which way it mounts. Emerald Heights, which covers Woolgoolga, Emerald Beach, Moonee Beach and Sapphire Beach, is the only vertically polarised transmitter on this coast, so an antenna set up horizontally for the mountain is in the wrong plane there. And sometimes the antenna is fine: corroded cable or a tired splitter drops a picture too, and thirteen of the towns we cover sit within 4 km of salt water, where corrosion works fast on fittings and coax.

TV Antenna & Reception questions

How much does a TV antenna installation cost?

The call-out fee is $99, which covers the first half hour on site. If the antenna needs more work than that, you get the full price before any work begins, so there are no surprises.

Why does my picture keep dropping out?

It is nearly always the antenna, the cabling or the signal level, and with five transmitters on this coast, one of them vertically polarised, an antenna aimed at the wrong tower or mounted in the wrong plane is a genuine cause too. We test on site and fix the actual cause rather than guessing.

Why does my antenna point a different way to my neighbour's?

Because it may be aimed at a different transmitter. Five serve the Coffs Coast, on channel groups running from 28 to 51, and one of them, Emerald Heights, is vertical where the rest are horizontal. Which tower holds the best picture at your address comes down to the terrain in the path, so we meter it rather than assume.

Do I need a new antenna or just a repair?

Often a repair is enough. We only recommend a new antenna when the old one is past it, and we tell you which before any work starts.

Can you add a TV point in another room?

Yes. We run tidy cabling to bedrooms, living areas and alfresco spaces and leave a proper wall outlet.
